You can use the static methods from class intradoc.shared.SecurityUtils such as isUserOfRole to determine security.

I generally only use executeServiceTopLevelSimple. This does not have to be for only admin users. It can be used with any UserData. If you need to execute a sub service, I would recommend one of the sub service methods.

The HowTo Components (first provided by Stellent) and updated for 11g by Bex Huff (http://bexhuff.com/2011/03/howto-component-samples-for-oracle-ucm-11g) have several examples. The included components in the HowTo Components that deal with filters are as follows: DataAccess, DynamicPrefix, ScheduledEvent and SecurityFilter.

Thanks for the post. It helps us understanding and considering when to use what.
On a side note, while it is easy to get the user context and his roles etc. in a service, I find it kind of hard to get userIsAdmin kind of feature in a filter. What’s the right approach?

Ben, that was the original driver of one of our questions as well. Oracle Support has indicated that is not a supported configuration. So, while you may be able to get it to work with some manual work-arounds you’ll be on your own from a support perspective.
